Dunkin' Brands Group Inc. plans to open 550-650 new stores globally this year, Chief Executive Nigel Travis said Wednesday.

It plans to open 350-450 Dunkin' Donuts store outlets outside the U.S. this year, Travis told reporters on the sidelines of an event to launch the third Dunkin' Donuts store in India.

A "disproportionate" number of these Dunkin' Donuts stores will be opened in the Asia-Pacific region, he added.

Dunkin' Brands is the parent company of Dunkin' Donuts and Baskin-Robbins restaurants.

A joint venture between U.S.-based Dunkin' Brands and India's Jubilant FoodWorks Ltd. opened its first two stores in New Delhi earlier this month.

Overall, Dunkin' Brands plans to open between 80 and 100 Dunkin' Donuts outlets in India over five years, mostly in shopping districts or malls.
