Matrix Partners finalizing move to Cambridge HQ
is leasing additional space inside a Cambridge office building and plans to use the office as its headquarters as of mid-2013, marking another move by a suburban VC firm to an urban center in the area, Boston.com's Scott Kirsner reported Wednesday
Matrix has leased 11,500 square feet at 101 Main Street, where the firm currently has an office used by part of its team - including general partner Antonio Rodriguez - and as incubation space for some of its portfolio companies.
Matrix general partner David Skok told Kirsner that he wants to save entrepreneurs the trouble of making the trip to Waltham to meet at the Matrix headquarters. Matrix has another two years on its lease in Waltham, Kirsner reported.
Among the venture capital firms that have moved to Cambridge or Boston in recent years are Atlas Venture (Waltham to Cambridge), Bessemer Venture Partners (Wellesley to Cambridge), Advanced Technology Ventures (Waltham to Boston), Highland Capital Partners (Lexington to Cambridge) and Charles River Ventures (Waltham to Cambridge).
Matrix's Massachusetts portfolio includes companies in Cambridge and Boston (HubSpot, The Echo Nest, GrabCAD, sqrrl) as well as in the suburbs (Care.com, Affirmed Networks, Acacia Communications, Adelphic Mobile).
