Boston Ad Agency Makes its Move into PR

July 10, 2014 - When the New York Times last year broke the story that allen & gerritsen (a&g) was acquiring Philadelphia's Neiman and its PR practice, a&g CEO Andrew Graff said one immediate goal was to create an a&g PR capability in Boston.

a&g Principal Tim Reeves, who heads the a&g PR practice, today announced the appointment of the Boston PR operation's two founding leaders - Brenna Fitzgerald, Director of Public Relations, and Ian Meropol, Director of Media Relations.

"Brenna and Ian are two remarkable Boston PR pros," said Reeves. "They each had choices. Andrew and I are honored they chose a&g."

Fitzgerald and Meropol said one compelling factor in coming to a&g was the power and potential of the a&g Brand Newsroom. Launched in the agency's Philadelphia office last year, the Newsroom is a collection of a&g "reporters" who scour their news feeds and social channels, searching for unique "moment in time" storytelling opportunities for a&g's clients' brands. The newsroom specializes in expedited storytelling - seizing those opportunities, fast, and telling them well.

The Brand Newsroom's 2013 work for premium deli meat client Dietz & Watson was shortlisted for a Shorty Award and received a merit award from the coveted One Show.

Brenna Fitzgerald joins a&g from Brightcove, a leading global provider of cloud services for video, where she served as public relations and marketing manager. Prior to joining Brightcove, Fitzgerald was a managing supervisor at FleishmanHillard, where she served as a media relations specialist securing national and strategic placements for a variety of B2B, technology and consumer accounts. In her new role at a&g, Fitzgerald will lead a&g's PR collaborations with both consumer and B2B clients.

Ian Meropol for five years was producer at WEEI Sports Radio Network's "Dennis and Callahan Morning Show," where he helped secured the #1 ranking for the station within its target demographic nine times during his tenure. Meropol also worked at ESPN, with roles on both the programming and day-of-air teams. Meropol comes to a&g from Elevate Communications. Meropol will apply his substantial experience with the media - from both the PR and producer perspectives - to secure ongoing coverage for existing and prospective consumer clients out of the Boston office.

"I learned a lot working on the client side," said Fitzgerald. "Clients are craving agencies that have the technology and aptitudes to harness topical storytelling. That's what the Brand Newsroom is all about, and that's why we are surging."

"The newsroom is like being back with Dennis and Callahan - without getting up at 3 in the morning," added Meropol.
