Melissa brings over 25 years of operations, start up and tech transfer experience to drive SIMPedsas a high efficiency organization. Melissa obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Carnegie Mellon and a Master of Science degree from MIT following which she worked for Westinghouse Naval Nuclear Program performing research applied to nuclear power, aircraft carriers, and submarines. A self-described start up “utility player”, Melissa has worked at multiple high-tech startup companies, helping them successfully operationalize and establish optimal product-market fit including WebCT, Sermo and Affectiva where she became an expert in emotion sensing and big data analytics.Working closely with SIMPeds Tech, Engineering and Admin management, Melissa leads SIMPedsOperations by applying lean start-up methodologies to continuously advance SIMPeds customerfocus and operational excellence. She helps guide funding efforts, business model generation and customer-discovery to maximize the efficiency, effectiveness and impact of educational and other innovations born from SIMPeds.
Sean Hughes, Vice President, Philips Healthcare
As Vice President of Philips, Sean leads the Design Consulting organization. This global team is tasked with developing a broad range of solutions for customers solving specific local challenges, shaping the future of healthcare and saving lives. Using design thinking and agile methodologies the consulting team engages with the customer to rapidly discover, frame, ideate and then build solutions that improve healthcare experiences across the care continuum.
